Meet Dr Nelum & Happiness Coach Ronit
Meet Dr Nelum Dharmapriya GP, Educator, Speaker
Hello, I’m Nelum, a GP with over 20 years of experience, passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of those I care for. Born and raised on the stunning island of Sri Lanka, my journey into medicine began at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, where I graduated in 1995. The following years were a whirlwind of training in hospitals across Scotland and England, each experience shaping my skills and affirming my belief that General Practice was where I could make the greatest impact.
After seven fulfilling years as a GP partner in the north of England, my family and I embarked on a new adventure, moving to Brisbane in 2009. In 2012, my husband and I achieved a lifelong dream—we founded Narangba Doctors. What started as a dream has blossomed into a thriving medical centre with over 10 dedicated GPs, all committed to compassionate, patient-centered care.
Beyond clinical practice, I’ve found immense joy in teaching. Since 2018, I’ve been proud to facilitate a full-day workshop on Intrauterine Systems with HealthCert International. This work allows me to share knowledge and equip fellow GPs with the confidence to perform intrauterine contraception procedures safely and effectively—empowering others to provide better care is one of my greatest rewards.
But my professional journey took a deeply personal turn when I faced my own health challenges during menopause. Like many women, I struggled with weight gain and the toll it took on my wellbeing. Frustrated with conventional approaches that didn’t work, I delved into the science of metabolic health and uncovered the transformative role of insulin in weight regulation and chronic disease. It was a revelation that not only changed my life but reshaped how I approach medicine.
Now, I integrate these principles into my practice, helping patients achieve sustainable weight loss, reverse chronic conditions, and embrace vibrant, healthy lives. My personal journey fuels my passion for educating both patients and colleagues on the fundamentals of metabolic health—advocating for a return to whole foods, balanced nutrition, and a holistic approach to wellness.
Whether I’m working with patients, leading workshops, or sharing insights from my own health journey, my mission is clear: to inspire and empower people to take control of their health and thrive.
Thank you for visiting our page. I’m excited to share this journey with you and support you in achieving your health goals. Let’s embark on this path to vibrant living together!
